When I get this response it becomes painfully obvious how little people know about water in general.  Here are a few overlooked water details that everyone needs to consider (and that the FDA won’t tell you).

1.  The Cancer Panel for NIH says that its safer to drink filtered tap water than it is to drink bottled water.  That ought to make you go “hmm”.

2.  The FDA does NOT test bottled water.  They rely on input provided by bottled water manufacturers.

3.  Municipal water is recycled sewage.  In fact, this process is an ideal example of recycling!  Drink the water…it becomes waste..flush it back into the system, treat it with chemicals, put it back in the tap then the process starts all over again.  Yum.

4.  There are up to 300 chemicals added to municipal water to make it “safe” to drink including chemicals that are known to cause cancer.  Of course we’re told that they are added at “safe levels” but doesn’t that depend on how much water you drink, how much water you use for cooking  and how many showers you take per day?  The more exposure to these chemicals the more at risk you are.

5.  Reverse Osmosis water is a big step toward removing harmful chemicals BUT it removes the good right along with the bad (like throwing the baby out with the bath water).  The body needs minerals that are found in water in the natural state.  Drinking “dead” water doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. If you question that, perhaps it’s time for a refresher course in biology.

6.  Plastic bottles are bad for you and the environment no matter how pretty the bottles look or how “natural” the name sounds.  We know that BPA (and BSA) leaches into the product at high temperatures…temperatures that are reached as part of the bottling process! So, your bottle is FILLED with harmful chemicals BEFORE they reach the warehouses!

7.  Brita-type filters are helpful in removing most of the chlorine and some of the chemicals  BUT they make water very acidic.  In fact, this filtered water (along with the majority of bottled water) is as acidic as drinking a soda.  Since acidosis is the leading cause of chronic disease this is probably something you’ll want to take seriously.

8.   The majority of bottled water is municipal water that has had the chlorine removed and is then bottled and marketed as “natural” or “spring” water.   How does it feel to have water sold to you twice?  The bottled water industry will one day be known as one of the biggest scams in history of mankind.

9.  The average American spends $640 per year on bottled water….and they’ll spend that much (and more) for the rest of their lives UNLESS they swap bottled water for a healthy alternative the way I did!

10.  There are 5 (known) places in the world where water is naturally structured the way Ionized water is, because nature does all of the work to make it that way.   Unless nature is capable of producing “snake oil”  I think it’s safe to say that ionized water is different because its scientifically structured to have the same attributes as the “healing” waters around the world.

Sleep Apnea On The Rise & $10 Billion Behind it! What’s Going On?

Sleep study clinics are popping up all across America.  Today there are almost 3,000 clinics with hundreds more in the works for certification and approval to do sleep disorder diagnostics.

A few short years ago we’d never even heard of sleep apnea and yet millions of people weren’t mysteriously dying in their sleep (as we’re led to believe will happen). Today it is reported that 5% of Americans suffer with some sort of serious sleep disorder (with “many more not yet diagnosed”).   What in the world is going on?

The Mayo Clinic defines sleep apnea this way:

Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the muscles in the back of your throat relax. These muscles support the soft palate, the triangular piece of tissue hanging from the soft palate (uvula), the tonsils, the side walls of the throat and the tongue.

When the muscles relax, your airway narrows or closes as you breathe in, and you can’t get an adequate breath in. This may lower the level of oxygen in your blood. Your brain senses this inability to breathe and briefly rouses you from sleep so you can reopen your airway. This awakening is usually so brief that you don’t remember it.

Now that we understand the definition of sleep apnea and how this disorder blocks the airways, etc.,  aren’t you even a little bit curious about what causes it in the first place?

For a short season, sleep apnea was considered to be a condition (almost exclusively) of overweight, middle-aged men.  Today we have sleep study facilities exclusively for young children…overweight and otherwise. Clearly this isn’t just a problem of overweight, middle-aged men.  We’ve got a serious problems!

I’m not a physician and I don’t attempt to give medical advice; I’m just a common-sense-kind-of-gal.  In this case, my common sense is thirsting for the root cause of this mysterious 21st century medical condition defined as sleep apnea.

COMMON SENSE?

I believe that your complex CPAP breathing unit is serving you well by forcing air into your airway (masking your symptoms) but it sure isn’t helping you identify the root cause of your problem.  The “mainstream medical” community has become experts at masking symptoms with pharmaceuticals and treatments for everything that ails you.  When we can’t put a label on your problem, there’s no need to worry.  We’ll write a prescription for depression and/or a narcotic for pain.   Personally I’d rather know what’s causing my problem in the first place so that I can (hopefully) correct it INSTEAD of managing (and masking)  my symptoms. Darn! There goes my common sense again!

A SIMPLE SOLUTION?

I routinely work with people of all ages on dehydration-related health issues. Nothing on the planet (in spite of creative advertising efforts) replaces the body’s need for lots of healthy water.  You can’t fill a fish tank with Diet Coke and expect your fish to live nor can you water your plants with Energy drinks and expect them to grow.  So why do you think that there are viable replacements for water for the human body?  Hmm…

Contrary to popular belief, not all water is created equal.  If you want to experience a healthy turn-around, you’ll need healthy water that is structured in such a way that your body can  absorb it at the cellular level the way it is intended to do!  It takes serious water to do that job!

Don’t Expect Brain Power if You’re Not Willing to Water it!

brain waterDid you know that if your brain is dehydrated by as little as 1% you LOSE up to 10% brain capacity?  It’s no wonder we have brain fog!

With epidemic conditions like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s,  autism, ADD/ADHD,  and depression you SHOULD stand up and take notice of the importance of PROPER brain hydration.

It is reported that 75% of America is walking around CHRONICALLY dehydrated.  Chronic dehydration is defined as being at least 5% dehydrated.  That’s a scary thought when it comes to brain power.  If you lose 10% brain capacity by being just 1% dehydrated then you lose 50% brain capacity by being “chronically dehydrated”.  Of course, brain power is just one of the multitude of other health issues that stem from dehydration.

Your brain (and all of the rest of you) needs water.  So if water is the most important nutrient for the human body, don’t you think that the quality of the water you drink is equally as important as the quantity?  Just try dumping bottled water or tap water in your aquarium without a care about pH balance or purity and watch what happens.   Unfortunately, most of us care more about the quality of our wine than we do about the quality of our water.  Sad but true.

The I.V. Bag Holds a Lot More Than Just Water…It Holds The Answers to LOTS of Questions about Hydration

If you find yourself admitted to the hospital for just about any reason,  the FIRST “treatment” you’ll get (after you’ve gone through the initial vital signs check) is an I.V.  I don’t think we give enough thought to the need for an I.V. and I believe that a lot of questions about hydration can be found through the I.V. protocol that is followed by hospitals.

Although your doctor may sing a different tune when you’re out-patient (drink “fluids”) they all follow the rule-book for what the body really needs when you’re in-patient…they prescribe water.

The purpose of an I.V. is to supply extra water to a dehydrated patient and/or to assure that the daily water and salt needs or “maintenance needs” are met for patients unable to take them by mouth.  Naturally, there are circumstances through which the patient would not be physically able to drink water but; for the sake of staff convenience AND to enhance the billable goods, the I.V. protocol is followed for almost everybody.  I’m quite sure that the fact that most Americans are chronically dehydrated makes an automatic I.V. make a whole lot of sense.

Although the amount of I.V. fluids infused depends largely on size and the needs of the patient, according to Web MD it is typically between 1.5 and 3 liters (50-100 ounces)  a day for the average adult.  Rest assured, the medical professionals KNOW that we need 50-100 ounces of water just to hydrate in a sedentary state.  Funny how physicians fail to emphasize the need for lots of water OUTSIDE of the walls of the hospital.  When was the last time you drank 50-100 ounces of water?  If you need 50-100 ounces of water just to sustain hydration in a SEDENTARY state, imagine how much more water the body needs when it’s actually moving around living life!

Many patients “lose” their symptoms when they’re (finally) hydrated using I.V. fluids!  Hmm…

Whether you’re getting your water through an I.V. bag or you’re drinking it out of a bottle, it ALWAYS matters what KIND of water you consume and what’s “in” or NOT in your water makes a huge difference for your health.  For example, I.V. fluids aren’t just purified water, they contain saline to balance the electrolytes and here’s why according to Wikipedia:

If the {I.V.} solution were pure water you would die. When blood cells are exposed to pure water the increased salts in the cell cause the water to flow in and would cause the red blood cells to burst (this is called lysis). The blood itself is a little salty (which is why you rinse your eyes with saline). The IV bags are usually plain saline, sometimes they are saline mixed with a form of sugar. The sugar provides energy for the body. (it is not table sugar)

So you see?  The I.V. protocol holds the key to answers about proper hydration with the “right” kind of water.  IT MATTERS how much water we consume to maintain a healthy state and IT MATTERS what kind of water we drink to properly hydrate the human cells….in and OUT of the hospital.

Eczema on the rise in U.S. children? Garbage in…Garbage Out!

Based on a household survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3.2 million children (33%) have moderate to severe atopic dermatitis.

Dr. Anna Bruckner, one of the authors of a recent American Academy of Pediatrics report on childhood eczema says “We don’t know for certain why that is.” What?  Seriously?  The lack of common sense to connect the dots within the medical community is mind-boggling!  Garbage in…garbage OUT!

Everything that you see on the outside of the body is a manifestation of what’s going on inside the body.  From acne to eczema…these are signs and signals of an internal challenge.

Our children are in toxic overload and eczema is the least of our worries albeit a devastating (and embarrassing) condition for anyone to contend with.  We’re giving our kids a daily dose of toxicity in their food (and their water) AND THEN we’re looking for an ointment or a pill to fix the problem.  Their food and water has been laaced with pesticides, herbicides, and pharmaceuticals and their water has been treated with hundreds of chemicals just to make sewage potable.  How could they NOT show signs of toxicity?  Garbage in…garbage out.

If your child is dealing with eczema, stop running them to the dermatologist for topical creams in hopes of making their signs of a bigger problem disappear.   Start treating the inside and you’ll be amazed at what happens on the outside!   By addressing the root problem you’ll also be avoiding much more serious medical problems for your child down the road.

Avoiding toxicity is not easy in today’s world and it can be overwhelming when you consider all of the changes that you should be making.  Take a deep breath and take it one step at a time.

You can begin by reading labels and purchasing local pesticide-free foods whenever you can.  Stop buying sodas, artificial juices, sports drinks and bottled water housed in  toxic plastic containers and introduce LOTS of healthy, clean and clear water instead.  Healthy, clean water DOES NOT INCLUDE bottled or tap water (if you know anything about toxins at all).  The amount of toxins that you can eliminate just by changing your water will blow your mind!

If you decide to be proactive with eczema and you’re willing to follow a serious water protocol, your non-toxic water options are seriously limited for all of the reasons previously mentioned.  Your best bet is to invest in the best water ionizer that you can get your hands on so that you’re sure to be drinking healthy, non-toxic water.  An added benefit to owning your own medical-grade ionizer is that you’ll have access to various pH level water that will equip you to eliminate other toxic chemicals from your food and your home.

Experts Blame Dehydration for Stroke Damage? It’s About Time!

Headlines in a an article published by Everyday Health reads  “Dehydration Leads to Greater Stroke Damage”.  More accurately it should read  “Dehydration Leads to Greater Stroke Risk“.  Dehydration is your enemy and it’s time to give it the blame that it deserves. The human brain is 85% water and the blood is 90% water.  When the body is deprived of water, the consequences go well beyond what most people understand.  We’ve replaced the body’s NEED for water with a beverage-of-choice and we no longer recognize the signs of dehydration.  

Dr. Paul Bendheim, a clinical professor of neurology from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, says there are no hard-and-fast rules for staying well-hydrated, despite recommendations to drink eight glasses of water each day.   That’s a no-brainer! Obviously the amount of water each individual needs depends on a number of factors;  activity, weight and status of health just to name a few.  Dr. Bendheim goes on to say, “prior research found that the majority of people are dehydrated when they have a stroke, but it’s not clear why”.  How in the world can it not be clear why people are dehydrated?  It’s interesting to note that most heart attacks and strokes happen in the middle of the night when the body is the most dehydrated.  It’s a very good thing to drink water before you retire for the night!

The 8 Glasses of Water a Day Rule is just THE MINIMUM needed to keep your organs functioning…but it sure isn’t enough to keep your blood hydrated and your veins free and clear!

If you’re active, if you’re sick or if you’re overweight,  you need a whole lot more than just eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day to equip the body to battle things like stroke or high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, and a multitude of other conditions!  Water is positively key to your prevention and recovery…you were wired that way!

Seniors are generally more dehydrated than younger people primarily because  we lose our sense of thirst as we age.  We may need to be reminded to drink instead of waiting for the brain to trigger thirst.  Lots of people set alarms to be reminded to take medications, perhaps it’s time to set up a reliable reminder to prompt you to drink water too.  Relying on your sense of thirst won’t do the trick.  By the time the average person “feels” thirsty, they are already chronically dehydrated and ready for disaster.

Your Bones Are ALIVE And They Need Your Attention!

Most of us take our bones for granted unless we’re faced with a crisis like a broken bone or a fractured hip.  Our bones are very much alive and they need our attention if we want them to “stand up” to the job that we ask them to do day-after-day and year-after-year.

More than 250,000 people over the age of 65 break a hip each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  It’s interesting to note that most of the time people don’t fall a break a hip…they break a hip and fall.  How’s that for brittle bones?  Demographic reports suggest that 10,000 people a day are turning 65 and that this will continue for the next 17 years!  It looks like we have a lot of bone problems on the horizon if we don’t take action to protect them!

Contrary to popular belief, men are at risk too.  About 1 in 5 men will break a bone due to osteoporosis.  In fact, men claim 1 out of every 3 broken hips worldwide.  Sadly, both health and quality of life can plummet after a hip fracture.  It’s alarming to note that 37% of men die within a year after they break a hip — twice as many as women, found a 2014 study published by the International Osteoporosis Foundation.  This speaks volumes to the poor condition of the overall health of those battling brittle bones.  It’s time to give your bones (and all of the rest of you) the attention they deserve!

Are You “Bad to the Bone”?

Our bones consist of 25% water.  If you aren’t efficiently hydrating your body, your bones (and the rest of you) will pay the ultimate price.  This is just one of the reasons that the elderly often have hip and knee problems.  We lose our sense of thirst as we age and if we don’t make a conscious effort to drink lots of healthy water (naturally laced with minerals), we will be living in a state of chronic dehydration and the bones will begin to break down…and that’s just the beginning!

Red blood cells don’t last long in the bloodstream so they need to be replaced continuously by new cells, which originate in your bone marrow. This area in the center of the bone is a spongy tissue that churns out billions of new, mature blood cells each day (wow!) just to keep us supplied with the oxygen and energy we need.   If we refuse to give the body the amount of (and the quality of) water it needs, this entire system begins to fail.  Drinking plenty of healthy water is a very small price to pay to sustain health.

How Are You Neglecting Your Bones?

1.  You overlook calcium.   Adults need about 1,000 milligrams of calcium a day to keep the bones in good shape.  A huge source of calcium is healthy, mineral-laced water.  Unfortunately most  people are replacing healthy water with useless  bottled water (all minerals have been removed). So in addition to not consuming enough healthy water to stay hydrated, you’re robbing minerals from your bones to make up for the minerals that are not in your drinking water.  Does that make sense to you?  I sure hope  not!  Change you water…change your life!

Calcium is just part of the equation though.  In addition to calcium, daily magnesium, protein, and vitamin D are essential. Are You Clever or Wise When It Comes To Cancer?

Are you willing to take serious steps to AVOID Cancer or are you clever enough to hope there is a cure for you if you get it?  The American Cancer Society was founded on May 23, 2013 and we aren’t any closer to finding a cure for cancer (or any other disease whatsoever) than we were over 100 years ago.    What we DO have is knowledge from Nobel Prize for Medicine honoree Dr. Otto Warburg who discovered the ROOT CAUSE of disease (including cancer) in 1923 – he was awarded the prize in 1931.  In simple terms, cancer stems from a body in the state of acidosis (not alkaline enough) AND cells that are oxygen deprived.  With the rate of cancer in America at 46% – 1 in 2 males and 1 in 3 females it sounds like we might want to focus more on what CAUSES cancer. Kids Have to “Pay” to Use the Bathroom in School?

I’ve always thought that eliminating waste was a human necessity and not an earned privilege; but it looks like schools across America have a different idea. 

Texas – A second-grade teacher charges good-behavior “bucks” for bathroom visits.  Consequently a seven-year-old boy wet his pants in class because he hadn’t accumulated enough good behavior credits to secure a trip to the bathroom.

Chicago – School officials at a public elementary school in Chicago are ordering teachers to sign students up for “designated restroom times” when entire, overcrowded classes of little kids must use the bathroom each day.  The rationale for the “pee policy” is to improve the school’s standardized test results.

California – The mother of a 7-year-old Irving elementary school student says her son wet his pants in class after his teacher refused to let him use the restroom because the honor roll student didn’t have enough “Bonus Bucks” for a potty break.

NEWS FLASH: A ‘normal’ urination rate (of a hydrated human) is eight to 10 times a day.  When nature calls it’s time to go!  School schedules don’t have a whole lot to do with anything when it comes to bodily function.  Sorry teachers, you would NEVER have that much control over my kids!

I’m shocked when I coach people on the importance of efficient hydration for health and they complain that they can’t drink a lot of water because (if they do) they’d have to “live in the toilet”.  Are we so busy that using the toilet has become nothing more than a nuisance?  Apparently so.  Just ask our school teachers!   From their standpoint, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to be bothered with unnecessary things like potty breaks!

WARNING:  The longer you hold your urine the likelier it is that the bladder will become a breeding ground for bacteria to grow.  Bacteria can lead to infections which can spread to kidneys and cause greater damage to the body over all.  Holding your urine is NOT a good thing.  Withholding fluids is far worse.

Dehydration is the leading cause of many chronic conditions and water is the key to all life (and health).  If you want your kid to do their best in school then HYDRATE THEM!  How can a dehydrated brain function at its maximum potential?   Just keep in mind that what goes in MUST come out.  You’ll have to fight for potty breaks if you have a hydrated kid.

In order to avoid the potty problem (and the potential for bullying over an “accident”) countless parents are now withholding fluids from their little ones.  I don’t know what’s worse ; schools that think that using the bathroom is an earned privilege or parents that would rather have a dehydrated child than to fight the schools for their basic human rights.  Hmm…

It’s no wonder we have a health crisis in America…
