Green Cleaning With “Just Water”…No Lye!

cleaningNot too long ago that I would have laughed at the idea that anything could REALLY be cleaned by using “green” products.  After all, if it doesn’t have harsh chemicals and a great fragrance how in the world could it possibly do the job, right?   At some point, maybe I’ll learn to NEVER say “never”.  Out of curiosity I’ve been doing a little research on my own.  What I found has been shocking.

My quest began when I started pondering why Sodium Hydroxide/caustic soda (Lye) is added to municipal water systems to raise the pH to a neutral 7.0 at the same time it is added to cleaning products like detergent and soap.  The “secret” is in the pH.  The pH of Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) is 13.5…strong enough to burn the skin or cause death if ingested.  Due to the risks associated with exposure to pure Lye, it is no longer available for purchase on the open market.

Lye has been around (almost) forever.  The first evidence of the use of (lye) soap goes back to Babylon around 2800 B.C. where it was unearthed in archaeological excavations. For this time period, Lye would have consisted of a mixture of wood ash and water. It is theorized that tribal people could have discovered this solution by washing their cooking supplies that were laden with animal fat and cooking ash in water, inadvertently making the first soaps.

During the Roman Empire, historians write that the ashes from animal sacrifices coupled with the fat (lard) from the animals produced a foaming agent that they soon discovered had the unique ability to clean.  In the early stages of discovery it was used on the wool and cotton to clean it prior to being spun

Today, sodium hydroxide/Lye has hundreds of uses. We use it to control the pH of cosmetics and body products as well as to produce soap and detergent.  Truth be told, if we didn’t have Lye, we wouldn’t have soap. But what does Lye actually do? Lye is a powerful dissolving agent due to its high pH value.  All other ingredients are added to solidify and add fragrance to the cleaning agent (Lye).

So, what is the purpose of this tangent of mine?  It’s very simple.   I have been sharing high alkaline Kangen Water® (11.5pH) with my friends and family for a long time now.  We have used it to do our laundry, to clean the carpets, spot clean clothes, and de-grease ovens.  We have soaked our fruits and veggies to remove the residual pesticides, we’ve used it in place of harsh baby wipes…we’ve even used it to rinse our teeth to aid in the natural whitening process.  Pain free, chemical free, risk free cleaning with WATER!    I didn’t understand why and how this high alkaline water works so well…until now.    No Lye…no lie!

Isn’t it time to REALLY “go green”?

Don’t Laugh All The Way To The Doctor’s Office!

phWhen I talk to people about the importance of maintaining a healthy pH balance in the body their eyes often glaze over and they look at me like I have three heads.  Some even attempt to explain to me that the body adjusts itself naturally and that we don’t need to do anything extraordinary to maintain a healthy pH level.  They seem to believe that the body is somehow on auto pilot and it has no need for “outside interference” at all.  Really?   Perhaps it’s time for a science lesson.

Most of us understand that the pH of soil must be maintained at just the right level in order for plants to flourish.  The ideal pH level for most plants is between 6.0-6.5.   The farmer works very hard to keep the pH in balance in order to produce the healthiest crop.   The soil is tested routinely and action is taken to balance the pH when it becomes necessary.  Most soil is overly acidic due to acid rain and other outside influences.  The most common remedy is to add lime to the soil to raise the pH to proper levels.

Many of us also understand that the water in a fish tank must be maintained at just the right pH level (6.5-7.5) or the fish will go “belly up” in the tank.  Without the proper balance, the acid waste from the fish will kill them.  Many natural additives are used to raise the pH like driftwood or pumping CO2 through the tank.  The pH level is tested routinely and action is taken to balance the pH whenever necessary.

It is common knowledge that (up to) 300 chemicals are used to “purify” municipal water so that recycled sewage can become potable (yuck).  In addition to chlorine, sometimes Chloramine, a combination of chlorine and ammonia, (which has proven to be deadly to fish), is added to the water when the “legal limit” of chlorine has been met and the water still needs further sanitation.   Municipal water must maintain a pH level of 7.0 (which is a “neutral” level) to reduce corrosion of the pipes that the water travels through.  The additive used to maintain this pH level is lye (aka caustic soda).

Apparently if we SEE dead plants, dead fish or leaky pipes we understand the importance of taking action to maintain the proper pH level but if it impacts the human body we won’t worry about it until someone with a medical degree prescribes a pill or a surgery in an attempt to treat the problem that was brought on by an acidic body in the first place.

The blood pH level must be 7.36-7.46.  This is a non-negotiable number.  If it doesn’t maintain this level death is imminent so the body will rob itself from any source that it can in order to maintain this level.  Unfortunately, most of us have a body that is on acid overload by the food we eat, the things that we drink (including bottled and municipal water), the air that we breathe and by our overall “toxic” lifestyle.  Unfortunately, the body needs a little help to maintain a healthy pH level with all of this acidic influence.  Leaving it on auto-pilot will result in severe health consequences for you and your family.

I may have 3 heads but the next time you’re tempted to glaze over when someone talks to you about how to maintain a healthy pH level,  you might want to listen up.  Your low pH level is most assuredly wreaking havoc on your health whether disease has manifested yet or not.  I wouldn’t want you to laugh all the way to the doctor’s office when there are healthy alternatives right at your fingertips.

Did you know that just by changing your water to ionized, alkalized, electrically charged water you can profoundly change your health?  In addition to balancing your pH level to an alkaline state,  the molecular structure of  this water will help you hydrate your body at the cellular level…something that isn’t possible when you consume tap or bottled water.

Your body is 70% water…it deserves 70% of your attention when it comes to health.  Drinking ionized, alkalized, electrically charged water is the single, most impactful step that you can take for health and wellness.

Bottoms-up, Boomers!

Tell Your Boss to “Clean Up Their Act”

WEDNESDAY, May 23 (HealthDay News) –Office kitchens and break rooms are germ “hotspots,” and sink and microwave handles in these areas are the dirtiest surfaces touched by office workers on a daily basis, according to a new study.

Researchers collected nearly 5,000 individual swabs over six months from office buildings with more than 3,000 employees.  The offices included law firms, call centers and manufacturing, health care and insurance companies.

High levels of germ contamination were found on 75 percent of break-room faucet handles, 48 percent of microwave handles, 27 percent of keyboards, 26 percent of refrigerator handles, 23 percent of water fountain buttons and 21 percent of vending machine buttons.

“A lot of people are aware of the risk of germs in the restroom, but areas like break rooms have not received the same degree of attention,” Gerba said in a Kimberly-Clark news release. “This study demonstrates that contamination can be spread throughout the workplace when office workers heat up lunch, make coffee or simply type on their keyboards.”

It doesn’t have to be this way and you DO NOT need harsh chemicals to maintain a healthy environment in and out of the office.  Kangen Water machines produce 5 different types of water, including a 2.5 pH water that will kill ALL bacteria on contact.

Tell your boss to clean up their act with a Kangen Water machine.  Not only will you have the purest drinking water on the planet for all to enjoy but you’ll also have a germ free environment resulting in a healthier staff.

Antibacterial Soap….a REAL KILLER!

Antibacterial Soap

How about a little nerve toxin in your soap? That’s what’s found in antibacterial soap. It’s a toxic cocktail of chemicals designed to kill life. That’s how it kills bacteria. The problem is that it also harms people – especially infants and children who are trying to develop healthy nervous systems. Avoid all products claiming to be “antibacterial.”
Consider high acid Kangen Water. Levels can be adjusted down to 2.5 pH…proven to kill ALL germs and bacteria on contact. It doesn’t get any greener than that!

Toxic Cleaning – Throw The Chemicals Out the Window!

I read a post today from Suzanne Somers that is intended to reveal “hidden” causes for hampered weight loss.  There were some obvious things noted in this post like “stress” and “hidden ingredients”, etc.  This one caught my eye for a number of reasons:

Toxic products in your home.

Though you might never have realized it, the typical home is full of toxins that slow your metabolism and can add up to unhealthy weight gain and disease. Here’s how to clean it up: Gradually transition from plastic and aluminum containers to glass. As you run out of laundry detergent, tile cleaner, or other products, replace them with the many non-toxic versions now available or try natural cleaners like distilled white vinegar, baking soda, borax, or lemon juice. Consider installing air filters in your home and keep common house plants around instead of toxic air fresheners.

It really is comical (in a sick sort of way) that we would consider switching out our “toxic” cleaning supplies to encourage weight loss and YET most of us don’t give it a second thought for health reasons.   If the toxins in cleaning products can actually slow down the metabolism just IMAGINE what else they’re capable of damaging!!

My Kangen Water machine “creates” 7 different types of water…some for drinking…some for cleaning…some for cooking.  Go green/all-in-one!  Ask me how!
