Hypocrisy in a Cup…

The fixation that America has over flavored coffees boggles the mind.  Who knew that when Starbucks launched a coffee-lifestyle that the world would latch on and refuse to let go?  Masterful marketing, coupled with an inviting atmosphere, is far too much for most people to resist.  It makes no sense that it makes no sense, and there is seemingly no end to the madness.

I’m a coffee drinker (and I’m NOT cheap) but I’ve never fallen prey to the marketing blitz OR the indulgent coffee-lifestyle.   It’s made with water that I wouldn’t otherwise drink, and it’s laced with flavored chemicals that I wouldn’t otherwise ingest.  It’s loaded with calories that I wouldn’t otherwise eat and it’s served up in containers that I wouldn’t otherwise pollute the world with.  It is sold to me at a price that is 100+ times what it costs to make, and it gobbles up my hard-earned money that I can make better use of.  My work requires that I talk to lots and lots of people about better health and improved finances.  To indulge in the unhealthy coffee-lifestyle trend myself, while I’m preaching a different message, would be the truest definition of hypocrisy!

I’m guessing that IF most people took the time to calculate the cost of their coffee-lifestyle, they might just choke on their grande.  It doesn’t seem like a whole lot when we consider it cup-by-cup at the rate of $3:00-$5.00 a dose.  A little indulgence here, and a little indulgence there, and what you end up with is a small fortune spent on a coffee “experience”.  To say that you work hard and that you respect your money while tossing it at a “luxurious” cup of coffee day in and day out is another good example of hypocrisy!  You may convince yourself that YOU are worthy of that coffee experience,  but you definitely don’t value hard-earned money if you’re routinely spending $4.00 on a cup of coffee that costs less that 30 cents to make!  Just sayin’.

With a Little Self-Sacrifice; the Possibilities are Endless! 

What could be done with that small fortune you’re spending on your coffee-lifestyle IF you stopped consuming it and you saved it instead?

Would your Thanksgiving table include someone(s) less fortunate while you feed them with money you refused to spend on your coffee-lifestyle?

Would you adopt a needy family for Christmas and buy gifts for those suffering souls with the money you saved?

Would you go on a small vacation next year (that’s no joke IF you’ll do the math) using money from your old habit?

Would you have the money to buy some new clothes for yourself with the money you saved…a size or two smaller because of the calories you’ve saved too!

Would you be able to afford to buy good tickets to a concert OR attend an event that you’ve longed to attend JUST BY refraining from self-indulgence?

If you insist on feeding your coffee-lifestyle, that’s certainly your business.  But it’s a good idea to nix the hypocrisy when you do.  Don’t whine about your weight or your wallet as long as you’re negatively impacting both in the process.  Don’t preach about GMO’s, pesticides, organic or gluten-free as long as you’re a part of feeding chemicals to the world.  Don’t speak-up about the quality of water and our pollution problems as long as you’re tipping your coffee cup filled with water you wouldn’t otherwise consume served in a cup that’s compounding the pollution problem.

There’s a whole lot of hypocrisy in trendy cup-of-coffee, that’s for sure.  But the GOOD news is that it’s thrown in for free.

Do You Own an Appliance That Will Put Tons of Money in Your Pocket AND Last 20 years? I do!

There isn’t much that sets aside one standard kitchen appliance from another.  After all, refrigerators store your food and stoves cook it (with a little help).  Microwaves nuke cook your food faster and dishwashers clean up the mess.  All of them cost you money to buy and money to maintain and none of the will  save your household money in the long-run whatsoever…until now.

When it comes to refrigerators the prices range from $400 to $10,000 while the biggest differences are limited to capacity and appearance.  Consumer reports indicate that most people purchase an appliance based upon size (capacity) and how it looks in the kitchen, while very few focus on the energy saving benefits at all!  If you need a stove or refrigerator it really doesn’t matter how much it costs to operate it, does it?

Since most newer appliances are energy efficient these days, if you’ve seen one you’ve seen-them-all when it comes to cost to operate. While it’s nice to be mindful of the electrical expense associated with operating your appliance, that is the only savings that you’ll see in ownership.  The kitchen appliances in your home aren’t tax deductible either because they aren’t designed to do anything more for you than cool, cook or wash. 

Most kitchen appliances come with a 1-2 year limited manufacturer’s warranty.  An extended warranty is also available for purchase from most retailers for a small fortune. Consumer reports say that the average kitchen appliance has a lifespan of 5-10 years. These days, if we get 10 years out of a refrigerator we think we’ve won the lottery!

I didn’t know that at the push of a button I could restructure water to a pH level of 11.5 and that I could  nix the laundry detergent and all other household cleaning chemicals or that I could clean carpets and ovens and lots of other things without chemicals!

Stop Playing Russian Roulette With Our Children!

Toxicity is the root cause of most of the health challenges that we’re having today and yet we continue to turn a blind eye to the problem.  From autism to Parkinson’s, toxins can be blamed for your neurological nightmare.  If you doubt that, then you need to take the time to see what NIH has to say about the dangers of your environmental exposure in Reducing Environmental Cancer Risk…a report spearheaded by the President’s Cancer Panel and provided to the White House in 2009.

There are lots of things to blame for your toxic overload.  From pesticides on your food to the mercury in your dryer sheets to the water you drink.   Too much toxicity and you’ll eventually pay the ultimate price for your ignorance.

Avoiding toxicity is a big  job but you can do it.  Here are a few basic steps that you can start taking right away:

1.  Focus on your food.   Where does it come from and how is it grown?  Read labels and begin to build your knowledge base.  Most of what we’re eating today resembles a science project gone wrong.   In an attempt to increase the size and the amount of the food that is grown in the U.S. we use every chemical (and hormone) option known to science.   Your food may look good,  but what you can’t see you will hurt you!   “Don’t judge the book by its cover”.  The way your food LOOKS has nothing to do with how safe and healthy it is to consume.

2.  Focus on your water.  If you ask people OUTSIDE of the U.S. about water, they have a whole different perspective than most Americans.  Water isn’t “just water” any more than air is “just air” or food is “just food”.  If you are on a public water system then you  must know by now that your water is recycled sewage.  It takes a whole lot of chemicals (up to 300) to make sewage potable and most of them wreak havoc on your health.  If you turn your nose up to tap water and exchange it for bottled water instead,  then you’re making a huge mistake.  In addition to spending $10.00 a gallon (on the average), you’re also exposing yourself and your family to harmful toxins PROVEN to cause cancer and disrupt hormones.  If this is all new to you then you’ve flunked the test on  improving health and avoiding disease!

If you decide to get proactive and start fighting for your own health then you can take one HUGE step that will kill a lot of birds with one stone…purchase a quality water ionizer.  Here we go again.  An ionizer is not “just an ionizer” any more than a car is “just a car” or a house is “just a house”.  You get what you pay for and you can’t afford to cut corners when it comes to your health.

Lower IQ? Blame it on the Arsenic in Your Water!

A new  study was just released that correlates exposure to arsenic in well water with a lower IQ.  Who put arsenic in the water?

Arsenic occurs naturally in groundwater, which means that people who get their water from wells may be consuming it.  To make matters worse, inorganic arsenic was used for farming purposes for years and, although it has been banned for use in the U.S. for 2 decades, contaminants can remain in the soil for 40 years or more.  It is no secret that whatever is in the soil will ultimately end up in the water supply.  In fact, ground water contamination is a killer and USGS researchers recommend that people who rely on wells invest in a filtration system.

I talk to a lot of people about water and it never ceases to amaze me how little most  know (and understand) about it.  Most people who rely on well water for their homes have a false sense of security about the safety of their water.   Apparently if it’s clear and clean-looking and it passes their “taste test” they believe that it’s safe and healthy.   Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I live in rural Virginia and I get my water from a well.   The land surrounding my home was farmed for many years before it was sold off and developed. Undoubtedly arsenic was applied to the fields for pesticide purposes for a  long time and when my well was tested I was shocked at the level of arsenic found in my tap water!

Water is the most vital nutrient for the human body and it’s nothing to take for granted.  Whether you rely on municipal water, well water or commercially bottled water you MUST take action to make it safe for you and your family.  My action involves purification and ionization.  Today my family has access to the safest, healthiest (and best tasting) water available anywhere.

No Thanks…I Don’t Do Knock Offs

faleI’ve never been one to fall for fakes.  If I can’t afford a Gucci bag then far-be-it-from-me to carry a “wanna be” around.  After all, even if I could fool the untrained eye, I would know that I was settling for second best and trying to pass it off as THE best.

If I can’t afford a Cartier, I’ll do just fine with an average watch.  They both tell  the same time and I can tell the difference.  A fake Cartier wouldn’t make me show up on time any better than the average watch.  Even if I could fool the untrained eye, I would know that I was settling for second best and trying to pass it off as THE best.

I especially don’t do knock-offs when it comes to my health.  If I’m going to take vitamins or supplements then I want to take the best.  I don’t want a “fake” no-name brand that claims to be the same as the best.  I want the best.    It’s not worth the risk and my body will know the difference.

I had the same mindset when I made the investment in a water ionizer for my health.  I had the chance to “try before you buy” and I’d done my research.  After having good results from “the Cadillac” of ionizers I wouldn’t dream of buying a knock-off.  If I can’t afford the best then I’m not settling for a knock-off.  It’s not worth gambling with my health just for a lower price and my body knows the difference.

My family deserves the best of everything.  I might not buy them Gucci or Cartier but when it comes to health we aren’t going the cheap route…I want THE BEST.
